Objectives of VAYA

Our Mission is

  • to support and foster performing and literary arts education through bursaries and scholarships
  • to give participants the benefit of expert criticism from unbiased adjudicators
  • to help participants acquire self-confidence by performing before an audience
  • to provide performance and education opportunities for participants both at the festival and in the community throughout the year

We do our best not to turn anyone away and try to find sponsorship for those individuals and schools needing help in order to attend.

Many thanks to our core volunteers who contributed so much and made the 2019 festival run smoothly: Siong Chan, Wendy Chan, Donard MacKenzie, Maureen Paetkau, and Claudia Trigo.

Thank you to our hard working board: Bob Rompre, Richard Haack, Heilwig von Koenigsloew, Elaine Lindbjerg and Sandi Siemens; our gracious hosts at Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s Music Department, and our amazing staff – Dominque Bernath, Kyra Esau, Jon Erzinger, Aniela Erzinger, Billy Muir and the staff of Tom Lee Music.
